What Sets Us Apart

Golden field at sunset, reflecting grounded financial guidance and long-term perspective.
  • It’s right there in our name—because it’s what we do. Retirement is a unique life stage that brings new opportunities and new decisions. Whether you're approaching retirement or already there, we believe working with a planner who specializes in this phase can make a meaningful difference.

Our team includes a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and dedicated investment manager, giving you well-rounded advice grounded in both planning and portfolio management.

  • We help bring clarity to all aspects of your financial life. Our planning process integrates:

    • Retirement income planning

    • Investment management

    • Tax planning

    • Insurance and risk management

    • Estate planning

We coordinate these pieces into one cohesive plan—so you can feel confident you’re on the right track.

  • As an independent firm, we aren’t tied to proprietary products or corporate mandates. This flexibility allows us to offer a broad range of strategies and tools tailored to your goals.

  • We strive to build genuine relationships and take the time to understand what matters most to you. Your values, goals, and priorities shape every aspect of your retirement plan and investment strategy.

  • We’re proud to be based in Omaha, and our approach reflects the Midwestern values we live every day: hard work, humility, practicality, and showing up for people. We don’t push products, talk over anyone’s head, or chase trends for the sake of it.

Instead, we build long-term relationships, earn trust through transparency, and offer steady, thoughtful guidance — the kind we’d want for our own families.

No jargon. No ego. Just doing what’s right, even when no one’s watching.

  • Transparency is a cornerstone of our service. Rest assured, as a fee-only firm, we only get paid by our clients and never earn commissions from investment or insurance companies by selling specific products.

  • As a fiduciary, our focus is on your financial well-being, allowing us to provide tailored solutions that align with your goals. By prioritizing your interests, we help you stay on track for a secure and fulfilling retirement.

What It Costs to
Work Together

Transparency is important to us, and at Sanders Retirement Planning, we operate as a fee-only firm, which means we're compensated solely by our clients—we don’t receive commissions or compensation from product providers.

  • All ongoing planning relationships begin with an initial planning period, which allows us to deliver meaningful value to you before you commit to an ongoing relationship.

Or, if you’re not looking for an ongoing planning relationship or full investment management, we also offer one-time planning-only engagements.

Both of these service options are billed as an hourly fee of $250 per hour based on the scope of work. One-time standalone planning engagements start at a minimum of $5,000 per plan.

There are no surprise costs—we’ll always explain your fee clearly before any work begins. If you'd like to learn more about which service might be the best fit for you, we invite you to schedule an introductory call.

  • This service includes comprehensive retirement planning, long-term tax strategy, investment management, and ongoing support.

We offer two pricing options depending on your needs and preferences:

    • Assets Under Management (AUM): Fees are based on the value of the assets we manage for you, using the following schedule:

      $0 –$250,000 = 1.50%
      $250,001 – $500,000 = 1.25%
      $500,001 – $1,500,000 = 1.00%
      $1,500,001 – $2,500,000 = 0.90%
      $2,500,001+ = Flat annual fee of $22,500

Under the above schedule, only one rate is charged against all of the assets. This is not a tiered or blended annual fee schedule in which each tier of assets is charged a different rate under the annual fee schedule creating the effect of a blended fee rate used at the time of billing.

    • Flat Fee: For some clients that prefer this option, we offer a fixed annual fee that reflects the complexity of their financial situation and the size of their portfolio.

We’ll clearly outline and mutually agree on your fee structure before any work begins—no surprises, no hidden costs.

What to Expect When Getting Started

We start with a complimentary phone call to learn more about your goals, concerns, and what’s on your mind. You’ll have a chance to ask questions and get a feel for how we work.

The goal? To help each of us decide if we’re a good fit for each other— no pressure, no commitment.

Step 1: Start with a Quick,
No-Pressure Call

Step 2: Discovery Meeting

If you’d like to keep going, we’ll schedule a deeper conversation — often around an hour. We’ll dive into your priorities, questions, and retirement goals.

We’ll also explain how we work so you know exactly what to expect before moving forward.

Step 3: Your Personalized Plan

We begin with a “planning first” approach. That means taking time to fully understand your full financial picture — income sources, savings, tax status, lifestyle goals, and more.

Then we build a plan designed to align with what matters most to you.

Once we present your recommendations, we’ll step back and give you space. This is your chance to decide if our ongoing planning services will be valuable to you. We won’t pressure you—and there’s no obligation.

We want you to feel fully comfortable and confident before moving forward.

Step 4: You Think About It

Step 5: Long-Term Partnership

If you feel confident in the value and approach we’ve presented, we’d be honored to become your long-term partner. we’ll help implement your plan and keep it on track.

We’ll be here to help you adjust as life changes — guiding you every step of the way.

Ready to get started?

  • We work best with people who are approaching retirement or already retired, and who are serious about creating a plan. While we don’t have a hard minimum, our services are typically most cost-effective for those with investable assets of $500,000 or more.

  • Your personalized plan can include investment strategy, retirement income projections, tax planning opportunities, Social Security timing, insurance and estate guidance—and it evolves as your life does.

  • No—we proudly work with clients locally in Omaha and nationwide via secure video meetings and digital tools. If you're in Omaha, we'd love to meet in person. But geography isn’t a barrier.

  • The introductory call is a relaxed, no-pressure conversation—typically about 15–30 minutes—designed to help us get to know each other.

We’ll start by learning a bit about you: what prompted your interest in planning, any questions or concerns you have, and what you hope to achieve. We’ll also share more about our services, how we work with clients, and answer any questions you have about our process, fees, or philosophy.

The goal isn’t to give advice on the spot—it’s to help both of us determine whether we’re a good fit to work together. Whether you’re ready to dive in or just exploring your options, we invite you to schedule a call.

  • It means we never earn commissions or sell products. As a fiduciary, we’re required to put your best interests first—always.
